All children 3 and under, not yet toilet trained, or lacking control are legally required to wear two layers of swim diapers in the pool. These diapers must fit snuggly all the way around the waist and legs. At least one of these diapers must be a reusable swim diaper. Reusable diapers are available for purchase from our office.
We require that all beginners in private lessons take a minimum of 8 lessons to give them a basic comfort level in the water. Because learning to swim is a new experience, it can sometimes take students multiple lessons to adjust. Please allow for and expect this adjustment period.
Recurring lessons are ongoing and billed automatically on the 1st of every month. We require a 4-lesson "Withdrawal Request" in order to permanently cease billing for recurring lessons. You will receive a confirmation email once your request has been processed.
Drop-in lessons are charged at the time they are booked and are limited to the specific lesson days and times agreed upon. Calendar days and times beyond those booked will not be reserved and are available to others on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Booking and Payment
New lesson bookings can be made via telephone or in person. Receipt of payment is required at the time of booking. Lessons are scheduled on a first-come-first-serve basis and no lesson time or schedule will be held without payment.
All students are required to have a valid Visa or Mastercard on file. Payment can be made with Cash or Check prior to the 1st of the month. We will charge all accounts with outstanding balances using the card on file on the 1st of every month. Please keep us informed of any changes to your card (e.g. expiration dates, replacement of canceled cards, etc.) as any declined charges will be assessed a $25 fee.
An annual per-student registration fee of $30 is required for Private and Group lessons. Registration is valid for 12-months from the time of payment and covers all lessons scheduled with Swimkids. Parent-Tot classes do not require a registration fee.
Registration Fees may not be transferred from one student to another.
Any fees for declined credit cards, bounced checks, stop payment, etc. will be automatically added to your account and billed to you.
All sales are final. We reserve the right to credit your account in the event funds need to be reallocated, but do not offer refunds. We will do our best to provide students and parents with the classes they need, at the time they prefer, but offer no guarantee of availability.
Canceling and Rescheduling Lessons
Please contact our office in-person or by phone to cancel and reschedule a lesson (Swimkids Office: 801.944.8811). Cancellation needs to be made 24 hours before the applicable lesson time to be eligible to reschedule a makeup lesson. A makeup lesson will not be offered for day-of cancellations. (If your student has classes on multiple days, i.e. Monday at 9:00 AM and Wednesday 11:00 AM, a notice for each lesson day is required.)
Rescheduling a lesson with proper 24-hour notice is subject to a $5.00 per 15–min rescheduling fee. The fee will be waived with a 30-day rescheduling notice or 24-hour sick notice. Please contact the office as soon as possible if you are going to miss a lesson.
Absences and Make-ups
A “No-Show” (i.e. no Cancellation and/or no notification) is not eligible to reschedule a make-up lesson.
Make-up lessons are available for students where notification of their absence is provided at least 24 hours prior to the applicable lesson
Makeup lessons are subject to availability and are only scheduled up to 3 days in advance. Click here to view our calendar of available make-up lesson times. The list will be updated at 7:00 PM each night for the following day. All reservations for make-up times are completed via phone. Please call and speak with us or leave a voice mail indicating the spot that you would like to fill. If it is still available we will call you back to confirm the spot and receive payment if necessary.
SwimKids will make a good faith effort to schedule students with requested instructors. We reserve the right to use substitute instructors due to illness, absence, or otherwise. There are no refunds for classes with substitute instructors.

Can I get into the water with my child during their lesson?
We discourage parents from getting into the water with their child during their private lesson, because we find that it is much easier for the student to bond with the instructor if their parent/caregiver is not in the water. Parent-tot classes are designed for one parent to accompany their child.
How can I make-up a missed lesson or take extra lessons?
You have 30 days from the date you cancelled your lesson to schedule a Make-Up. To make up a missed lesson or take extra lessons; you can choose from our one time spots listed on our website. The list is updated at close each day for the next 3 days. We do not book make-ups more than 3 days in advance. If you see a lesson time that you want on our one-time spots calendar, call our office (the phones are on 24/7). Leave us a detailed message with the day and time you would like to book. We will call you back to confirm the spot and collect payment.
How do I cancel a recurring lesson spot?
Single lesson days and times can be cancelled by calling and notifying our office. Cancellation and Make-up policies apply. If you need to permanently cancel recurring lessons, a 4-lesson "Withdrawal Request" (found below) must be submitted. A request submitted with less than a 4-lesson notice will still be charged for the balance of lessons. Reducing lessons from two days per week to 1 day per week still requires submission of the "Withdrawal Request" for the day you with to cease attending in the appropriate time frame.
How many lessons will it take for my child to swim?
Since each individual child is so different, it is really hard for us to answer that question. What we can tell you is that with the focused one-on-one attention that we are able to provide, your child will swim when they feel comfortable and are ready.
How often do your sessions run?
With our year-round swimming options in Holladay and St. George, you are able to start lessons anytime we have an opening that fits your needs. Because most lessons are private, we can provide great scheduling flexibility to better serve your needs. Your child can attend once a week, or multiple times per week. In the summer from June-August we offer outdoor lessons at locations in Salt Lake and Utah Counties.
What can I do while my child is taking their lesson?
While your child is taking their lesson you can sit poolside and watch them, or if you need to you can visit our office. Your attention and encouragement will help your child feel your support. It is ok to bring other children who will not be swimming, but please keep them safe!
What do I need to bring to my lessons?
For your lessons you will want to bring swimsuits and towels for your swimmers, and shower essentials if you want to shower afterward. Your swimmer may also want to bring goggles, but we always have plenty to borrow if they do not have their own. Swimmers who wear diapers must be double diapered with one diaper being a reusable swim diaper with elastic at the waist and around both legs, you may also want to bring a swimsuit to go over their diaper, but this is not required.
What do I need to do before my first lesson and where do I go?
Once we have finalized your bookings, we will send you confirmations of the dates and times. The address to all of our pools with be automatically placed at the bottom of each email. Remember that all pools other than Holladay and St. George are at residential pools. Plan to arrive early for your first lesson to take care of any unexpected issues. Check in with the office at the main Holladay location. We do our best to run our lessons on time, and we find that students who are not rushed and have the opportunity to watch other swimmers before getting in typically do the best.
What if we can’t make a lesson?
If you are unable to attend a lesson, you can give us a 30-day notice to receive a free make up. Less than 30-days, but more than 1 day before you can pay a $5.00 rescheduling fee per 15-min lesson spot to schedule a make up. Whenever you know you will be missing a lesson, leave a message on our phones ( 24/7) 801.944.8811 so we can notify the instructor.
Why do you offer private lessons?
During a lesson, each student has the instructor's undivided attention for 15-30 minutes. This focused learning helps the child to quickly gain necessary swim skills. Private lessons allow the instructor to focus the learning on the skills the student is ready for at a pace that works for each student.
